Routes by car at Folegandros
Having Hora as your departing point, we suggest the following drives:
A few kilometres off Hora you will find the settlement of Karavostasis, the port of the island and Hohlidia beach. This is the central beach of the port village, ideal for families, with cafes, restaurants and services just a few metres away. Also, at walking distance there is Vardia beach. Leaving the port and heading towards Livadi beach, you will find 3 smaller beaches all of them equally beautiful. Latinaki, with its coves that form small private beaches, Vitsentzou with crystal-clear waters and Pountaki, which is more secluded and thus ideal for those who seek tranquility. Finally, we reach Livadi, an easily accessed beach ideal for families.
Our destination is Agkali, one of the south beaches of the island. This is probably the most visited beach, thanks to its crystal-clear turquoise waters and a good choice of restaurants and cafes. From Agkali you can also take a small boat to Agios Nikolaos and Livadaki, two equally amazing beaches that you will definitely visit more than once. Finally, from Agkali you can take either the footpath to Fira, on your left hanside, or to Galyfos beach, on your right.
Leaving Hora and having reached the far end of Ano Meria settlement, you can choose between the road to Ampeli (west) and the road to Lygaria and Agios Georgios (north). For these drives, we suggest you opt for a 4x4 vehicle, as you will meet with a relatively rough unpaved route. All 3 beaches will definitely reward any difficulties of the journey.
Driving and trekking
For those who love trekking we suggest the following routes:
It is situated at the north side of the island. Departing from Hora, past the windmils on your right and before the turn to Agkali, you will find a sign on your right to Voreina beach. The footpath starts right at the central road and it will take you about 30 minutes to get to the beach.
Another north-side beach. Having reached the settlement of Ano Meria, past the Church of Agios Georgios, you turn right at the first cross and at the end of the road you will find the footpath to Serfiotiko.
Probably the most beautiful beach on the island. There are two ways to reach Katergo, either by boat from the port of Folegandros or by car. In that last case drive to the settlement of Livadi until you find the sign, on your left, for the footpath to Katergo. It will take you about 30 minutes to get to the beach.
